The honest answer first: under a minute from Doha

Al Wakrah sits about fifteen kilometres down the coast from the capital, near 25.17 degrees north and 51.60 degrees east. Being slightly south of Doha and slightly east of it, the two effects it experiences run in opposite directions and largely cancel. On any given day the difference between an Al Wakrah prayer time and a Doha one is a matter of seconds, and it never reaches a minute.

That is worth stating plainly rather than dressing up. If you have the Doha page bookmarked and you live here, nothing bad happens to your prayers. Nobody in Al Wakrah has ever prayed at the wrong time because they used the capital's table.

So why publish this page at all

Two reasons, neither of them dramatic. The first is that the exact figure costs nothing to compute, so there is no reason to hand you an approximation instead. The second is that "close enough" is a claim someone has to verify, and the only way to let you verify it is to show both numbers. What actually differs between here and the capital

Not the calculation, and not the timezone. What differs is only the coordinates fed into that shared calculation, and in Al Wakrah's case the coordinates are barely different. The south-of-Doha component would make the summer day marginally shorter and the winter day marginally longer; the east-of-Doha component pulls everything a few seconds earlier year-round. Added together they produce a number too small to change anyone's behaviour.

Where you will see a real difference: the mosque, not the map

The gaps people actually notice in Al Wakrah are between mosques within the town, not between the town and the capital. Those come from iqama practice — the interval a congregation leaves between the call and the start of the prayer — which is set locally and can differ by ten minutes or more between two mosques a street apart. It has nothing to do with coordinates or calculation methods. If your neighbourhood mosque starts later than this page suggests, that is almost certainly what you are seeing.

Asr and the two shadow rules

This table places Asr when an object's shadow has extended by its own length past its midday shadow, the position of the Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali schools and the one reflected on most Qatari mosque boards. The Hanafi school waits for a doubling instead, which lands Asr substantially later — the difference moves with the season and can stretch toward an hour. Given how many residents here come from communities where the Hanafi position is standard, this is the one place where two people in the same building may legitimately pray at different times without either being wrong.

The commute complicates nothing

A lot of Al Wakrah works in Doha. That raises an obvious question about which table to follow, and the answer is that it does not matter enough to think about. Whether you pray at your desk in the capital or at home here, the two schedules are within seconds of each other, so a single bookmark serves the whole day in either direction. This is genuinely different from commuting across a large country, where the choice of city would matter.

Ramadan on the coast

Fajr closes the pre-dawn meal and Maghrib opens the fast, and both shift steadily across the month — enough that the last night differs meaningfully from the first. Sunrise is listed too, but it is not the boundary of the fast; it marks the end of the period in which Fajr may still be prayed. The fixed ninety-minute Isha interval means the run from iftar to taraweeh is the same length every evening of the month, and the same length in a summer Ramadan as in a winter one. Jumu'ah timing and when to arrive

At just over twenty-five degrees north, the year moves Fajr through roughly an hour and a half between its earliest and latest points, and Maghrib through a comparable span the other way. None of that is masked by clock changes, because Qatar does not make any. Every shift you see between one month's table and the next is the sun moving relative to a fixed clock.
