The northernmost city in Africa

Bizerte sits on the Mediterranean at about 37.27 degrees north, 9.87 degrees east, which makes it the northernmost city on the African continent. That is more than a piece of trivia for a prayer timetable: latitude is the quantity that decides how violently the seasons push the times around, and Bizerte is further from the equator than anywhere else covered on this site for Tunisia.

The latest clock times in the country

Tunisia runs on UTC+1, whose reference meridian lies at fifteen degrees east. Asr under the majority rule

Tunisian practice is Maliki. An upright object's shadow reaches its shortest at midday, and Asr begins after it has lengthened by that object's own height. Ramadan when the night is short

The fast opens at Fajr and is broken at Maghrib. In a summer Ramadan the fasting day here is the longest in Tunisia and the recovery window between Isha and Fajr the tightest, which is worth planning around rather than discovering partway through the month. A winter Ramadan reverses both.

Sunrise appears in the table and marks neither boundary of the fast; it closes the period in which Fajr may still be prayed. With dawn set at eighteen degrees the gap between Fajr and sunrise is wide, and treating them as one moment would run the pre-dawn meal well past its limit.

Friday on the north coast
